Merry Christmas, Conroe

The Conroe City Council approved a $241,000 expenditure Thursday to install permanent LED lighting on 36 buildings in downtown. Director of Public Works Norman McGuire said he hoped to have the lights installed on the tops of the buildings before the Christmas season. It will take about 10,095 linear feet to top the 36 buildings.
“We play a major role in the downtown Christmas celebration and a big function of that is the installation of Christmas lights,” McGuire said during the council’s workshop meeting Wednesday. McGuire said the LED lighting will reduce costs to the city because can be left up year round and the lights have a life span of seven to ten years.
